Dominica flag emoji FAQ
Why does the Dominica flag show as DM on my PC?
Windows has no flag emoji artwork, so it displays the two letters instead. The flag appears normally on iPhone, Mac, Android, and in most browsers on other systems through apps such as WhatsApp or Telegram.
Is π©π² the same as π©π΄?
No. π©π² is Dominica, written DM. π©π΄ is the Dominican Republic, DO. They are different countries.
Where is Dominica?
It is a small island in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, between Guadeloupe and Martinique.
What is the bird on the Dominica flag?
The bird is the Sisserou parrot (Amazona imperialis), which is native only to Dominica and appears as a supporter on the country's coat of arms. It is an endangered species, with an estimated population of only 250 to 350 birds. It is ringed by ten green stars on the red disc of the flag.
Does the Dominica flag really have purple?
Yes. The Sisserou parrot is sometimes coloured blue or purple, its actual colour, and that makes Dominica one of the few flags of sovereign states to contain purple. The flag was adopted on 3 November 1978, the date of independence, and designed by playwright Alwin Bully.
What do the ten stars on the Dominica flag mean?
The ten green five-pointed stars stand for the ten parishes of Dominica: St Andrew, St David, St George, St John, St Joseph, St Luke, St Mark, St Patrick, St Paul and St Peter. The red disc around the parrot stands for justice, while the three-coloured cross represents the Trinity.
